What does variable valve timing do?
Variable valve timing, or VVT, adjusts camshaft timing as engine operating conditions change. This helps the engine balance power, fuel efficiency, and emissions across different speeds and loads.
What is the difference between a VVT phaser and a VVT solenoid?
A VVT phaser, also called a VVT actuator, changes the camshaft’s position relative to the crankshaft. A VVT solenoid controls the oil flow used to operate the phaser. These components work together to adjust camshaft timing.
Should other timing components be replaced with VVT components?
Cloyes recommends replacing the timing chain, tensioners, sprockets, and guides alongside VVT components. Addressing wear throughout the system helps maintain stable operation and accurate engine timing.
